Cream Ribbon, Moss Cloth: The Quiet Palette

Green cloth, cream silk ribbon, bare oak — a palette taken from a woodland floor, kept deliberately quiet.

Why moss green. The volume’s cloth is the green of shaded moss: deep enough to hold gold-less cream ribbon without contrast tricks, calm enough that the sitter’s wardrobe carries the frame’s energy. Against it, skin and lamplight read warm by comparison.

Wardrobe follows the same weather. Moss satin for the chapter portraits, cream silk when the frame needs lifting, deep green robes over both. Bright primaries would shout down this desk; jewel tones and woodland neutrals sit into it like pages into a binding.

Light like late afternoon. One warm source, low and to the side, as if through trees. The branch throws a long soft shadow across the desk, and that shadow is part of the signature: it should be visible in every frame, even if only at the edge.

Keep the metal count at zero. This desk has no brass, no silver, no instruments — wood, cloth, ribbon and a drawn tree. The plainness is the luxury.
